First Steps Early Head Start is a year round program offered by Spartanburg County First Steps serving children aged 0-3, pregnant women and their families in Spartanburg County.

Who is eligible?

Residents of Spartanburg County who are pregnant or have children aged 0-3, including infants with significant disabilities who are served by Babynet.

How does First Steps Early Head Start serve children with significant disabilites?
  • Works with early interventionists, therapist, and parents
  • Supports Individual Family Service Plan goals
  • Makes accomodations for maximizing full participation
How does EHS help parents?

Parents are provided with education and support that includes parenting classes, leadership opportunities, assistance with goal development and achievement.

How old is my child when he/she leaves EHS?

Children transition from Early Head Start on their third birthday. Families are engaged in planning for this transition when their children are 2 1/2 years old.

How do I know if my child is learning?

Parents are trained wtih easy to use and family-friendly activities including the use of videos to observe their child’s developmental progress.

I am involved in other programs and have childcare. Can I still apply?

Yes, First Steps EHS doesn’t duplicate other programs; there are additional services provided to your child and your family such as nutrition monitoring, developmental assessments, and screenings for your child, family goal setting, and ongoing support for your family.
